22 June 2020 (3 nights). A three-night tour of the beautiful city of Bruges with its picturesque canals and architecture, fabulous paintings by Van Eyck and Memling and other great Flemish Old Masters; followed by two days exploring the Battle of Waterloo, visiting the main sites such as La Haie Sainte and the pivotal Hougoumont; and also places where the Prussians fought like Plancenoit, so often overlooked. Not forgetting the inn where Wellington spent the night after the battle, and the house where Napoleon stayed on the eve of battle; and the ground where he reviewed his troops on a white charger next morning – when he might have been picked off by a British gunner if it hadn’t been for Wellington dismissing such vulgarity by saying that generals had better things to do than take pot shots at each other. Travel by Eurostar and mini-bus. Stay at family run old mansion hotel in Bruges and 4-star hotel near the battlefield of Waterloo.
