Battle of the Falaise Gap, 1944

The Falaise Gap, situation August 18, 1944. This is an Allied map made at the time, showing the encirclement of German troops in the Pocket which was closed a day later, when the Poles met the American (advancing from the SW) at Chambois. German units in light blue. 10,000 Germans were killed in the Gap and 50,000 taken prisioner. Click map to download PDF version
